According to official data from the Home Office for the year ending March 2022:
- UK Visas and Immigration (“UKVI”) granted over 1.6 million visas and permits (up 145% year-on-year) with the leading categories being for a visit (38%), to study (29%) and to work in the UK (17%).
- Over 466,000 study visas were granted globally, with the leading countries being China (116,967), India (107,978), Nigeria (58,887), Pakistan (21,372) and the United States (15,862).
- 277,000 work-related visas were issued (up by 129% year-on-year), with visas relating to skilled work accounting for 66% of visas granted.
- Over 3,500 Global Talent visas were granted for promising individuals in the fields of science, research, digital technology and the arts.

UKVI has over 250 Visa Application Centres covering 115 countries.
The UK has several visa routes as part of the points-based immigration system to attract the brightest and best talent globally, including the Graduate Route and a High Potential Individual visa route that targets graduates from prestigious universities.
Working alongside education sector partners (such as the British Council), UKVI also delivers a global student visa campaign to explain the visa process, raise awareness of visa decision times and encourage international students to apply early.
