- The UK is committed to developing a sustainable society and has world-class strengths in several key areas including renewable energy, zero-emission vehicle technologies, sustainable consumption and green finance.
- Almost 430,000 people work in low carbon businesses and their supply chains across the UK, with turnover from the sector estimated at £41.2 billion in 2020 (Source: ONS, 2022).
- Companies in the UK can benefit from a £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio fund that provides support for ten priority areas including floating offshore wind, nuclear advanced modular reactors, energy storage and flexibility, bioenergy, hydrogen, homes, direct air capture, industrial fuel switching and disruptive technologies such as artificial intelligence for energy.
- The UK was the first major economy to adopt a legally binding obligation to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
- The UK government’s practical sustainability policies (including the Net Zero Strategy and the British Energy Security Strategy) are actively supporting and creating up to 480,000 jobs by 2030 and leveraging £100 billion of private investment.
