  • The UK is one of the most popular and trusted study destinations in the world. Every year, more than half a million international students choose to study in the UK (Source: HESA, 2022).

  • The UK is home to four of the top 10 universities in the world (Source: QS World University Rankings, 2023).

  • UK universities have one of the most diverse subject offerings in the world, with over 50,000 undergraduate courses on offer (Source: UCAS, 2021).

  • Graduates of UK universities are among the most employable in the world, with three UK universities ranked in the global top 20 for employability, and 14 ranked in the top 100 (Source: QS, 2021).

  • The UK quality of life makes it one of the best countries in the world in which to study (Source: Educations.com, 2022). UK landmarks are considered some of the world’s most attractive (Source: Lonely Planet, 2022), and London is ranked as the best student city on the planet – with 14 other UK cities including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool and Leeds, also ranked in the world’s top 100 (Source: QS, 2022).

GREAT Study UK

The GREAT Study UK campaign, delivered by the British Council, is highly effective in attracting and supporting international students to study in the UK, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The key messages that the campaign promotes are:

  • The UK is home to many of the world’s best universities, with UK degrees globally renowned and teaching that pushes learning into innovative directions and encourages critical thinking.

  • Studying in the UK transforms career prospects by giving fresh perspectives, inspiring ideas and a degree that is admired the world over. UK graduates have ranked Imperial College as the best in the UK for employability, with its impressive programme of employer engagement to help students access those career opportunities (Source: The Complete University Guide, 2024).

  • The student experience in the UK is world-class, from breathtaking landscapes to dazzling nightlife and world-class culture. Students live and learn in one of the most exciting places on earth. The UK is the birthplace of great music, sports and literature, and home to icons from Shakespeare and Adele, to Harry Potter and James Bond.
